If you’re dreaming of building a new home in Wimberley, you’ve probably asked the big question: “How long is this actually going to take?”
We get it. Nobody wants to be stuck in limbo forever. Unfortunately, there’s no one-size-fits-all home building timeline but there is a roadmap. Once you know the main phases (and what can throw things off course) you’ll feel a lot more prepared and a lot less stressed.
The Four Phases of Your Home Building Timeline
Every build is a little different, but most custom homes follow the same general rhythm:
1. Planning and Design
This is the dream-it-up phase. We’ll talk through your home design vision, refine the plans with your architect or designer, and put numbers to the ideas. Selections, like flooring, fixtures, or whether you really want that statement tile from Italy, start here, too.
Timeframe: A few weeks to a few months, depending on how quickly you want to make decisions and your design complexity.
2. Permitting Requirements & Pre-Construction
This is the “hurry up and wait” stage of the home building process. We handle the paperwork with the city or county, finalize engineering, and line up our trusted trades. In Wimberley and across the Hill Country, permits can take anywhere from a couple of weeks to several months.
Timeframe: Out of our hands, but we keep you updated every step of the way.
3. Home Construction
Here’s where the magic happens for your custom home build. From site prep and foundation to framing, roofing, and the guts of your home (plumbing, electrical wiring, HVAC) this is the meat of the build. Then come the pretty parts: drywall, trim, cabinetry, tile, paint, and other interior finishes.
Timeframe: Several months, depending on home size, scope, and selections.
4. Finishing & Walkthrough
The fun details come last in the custom home building process: landscaping, lighting, specialty features, and those fixtures you spent weeks choosing. Then, we walk through together to make sure every inch feels right before move-in day.
Timeframe: Usually a few weeks, but worth the wait!

What Can Slow Things Down?
Even with the best plan in the world, delays happen. Here are the most common curveballs:
- Selections – The biggest culprit. If decisions slow, so does your timeline.
- Building Permits – Every county has its quirks. Sometimes it’s fast; sometimes it isn’t.
- Weather Conditions – Texas storms, heat waves, or just good old rain can push things back.
- Change Orders – Deciding mid-frame that you want a bigger pantry? Totally doable, but it adds time.
- Supply Chain – That custom light fixture might be gorgeous, but if it’s on backorder, it’ll make us wait.

How We Keep You Sane (and On Schedule)
We’ve built enough homes to know that communication is everything, which is why we keep things simple and transparent. Instead of handing you an overwhelming master calendar, we share the schedule in two-week chunks so you always know what’s coming without stressing about what might shift months from now.
We also stick with the same trusted trades on every project: crews who know our process as well as we know theirs. This means less drama and more steady progress. And because nobody likes being left in the dark, you’ll have your own project portal with schedules, invoices, photos, and updates all in one place.
